In a world with many ways to connect with people, especially virtually (ichat, google hangouts) it is easy to overdue meetings. You would think technology, saves us more time, but it can be an excuse to set-up a meeting because that is what managers do. When technology is used as a tool for strategy, meetings can have a purpose. So that means that there will be weeks face to face or virtual meetings will be needed multiple times in a week but for most work work meeetings should be used to provide either critical info that needs a face to face (or virtual) environment or one drives action. Plus a meeting costs money. If you have an hour long meeting, multiple the that hour of each person’s time (either salary or contract), then add the one hour of production that is being lost. I am not saying don’t do meetings, but examine their purpose and the cost.

Exactly! In my experience, half of all meetings can be contained in an email that I can digest in a couple of minutes instead of wasting a whole hour.
